Baby Elephant Birth Announcements

Babies! They are a welcome addition to our lives and such a blessing. I always get excited at the opportunity to make a celebratory gift set for someone I know who has given birth. By now, I know many of you have seen the adorable baby elephant plushies with the birth stats, but I designed this card to match our little pet elephant, Hazel.

Baby Elephant Gift Set

First of all, let's take a good look at the front of the card. Isn't Hazel sweet? She looks just like the plushie.

This adorable shabby chic digital paper called Soft Roses was the perfect choice for the base of my card with its muted pink coloring. I love how all the paper coordinates. The gold frame was cut using the Pink Fresh Ornate Oval Frame. As for the lace, I used my trusty Tim Holtz Lace Die Set.

Baby Hazel

The pink elephant is from Cricut Access. The original element design did not include the black shadow, so I had to create that myself. I also modified the eyes to match Hazel. When placing it in the frame, I used dimensional dots so that it would pop off the background.

Baby Text

I have made this card several times. However, I did make a new addition this time around. I decided to add the word BABY after I already matted my background papers and glued them down to the card base. Therefore, this is not a proper eclipse. Instead, I cut the letters out on my Cricut four times and glued them all together. Personally, I prefer this method over using just foam dots. It feels more solid and substantial. I then individually applied the letters aligning them as closely as possible with the pattern. I love the way the word blends into the matching background. It is very subtle, which is precisely what I wanted.

Again, this was such a fun gift package to design. It was created for a long-time family friend who recently became a grandmother.

I have another project coming up in the future featuring this patterned background paper. Except, this time, it is to console a dear friend who is entering the empty-nest stage of life. We are going from one end of the spectrum to the other!

Thank you for joining me again this week.  I always appreciate the company.

Happy crafting, everyone!

UPDATE:  Since writing up this blog, my niece gave birth to a beautiful little boy. Our family could not be happier with this new addition! I thought I would include pictures of the "baby boy" keepsake set I made for him. To respect my niece's family's privacy, I have not pictured any of the detailed information regarding my grandnephew's birth.

Both the elephant and card were designed as keepsake items, so I created a decorative box to hold the card for storage.

Since this card is for a little boy, I opted not to put my usual bling. Instead, I used a beautiful tufted quilt embossing folder for the blue and white on the card's front. It is difficult to see in the photo, but it is gorgeous and the perfect backdrop for the card.

Finally, I added on the inside, left panel of the card a poem I found online. On the inside, right panel, I printed my nephew's birth information (not shown).
