5-minute Christmas Card

5-Minute Card Front

If you need a card at the last moment or are looking for a Christmas card project suitable for the whole family, this quick 5-minute card is the answer.

All you need are some basic supplies from your craft room:

  • White cardstock cut at 8" x 5 3/8", scored in half at 4"
  • Black cardstock cut at 3 3/4"" x 5 1/8" for a mat
  • 1 1/8" x 5 1/8" gold foil strip
  • 7/8" x 5 1/8" decorative strip
  • 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" gold foil mat
  • 3/4" x 2 3/8" pre-printed sentiment
  • 6 foam dots
  • Glue

Craftsmart Cardstock

For this project, I used a Hot Buy Christmas paper pad I bought at Michaels. I think it was around a whopping $5. It came with everything I needed for this project except the black, white, and gold foil cardstock I already had in my stash.

Close-up of Detail

As shown in the close-up, the design is simple. Layer the gold strip onto the big black mat, aligning it at the bottom edges. Then, do the same thing with the decorative strip. Afterward, apply glue to the back of the mat and center it on the front of the white cardstock in the landscape position.

Front of card sentiment

You will then need to glue your pre-printed sentiment onto the gold foil mat. If you do not have a pre-printed sentiment, you can always stamp one. When completed, apply six small foam dots and place, as shown.

Inside Sentiment

If you would like, you can also stamp an additional message on the inside of the card or leave it blank.

Embossed Envelope Flap

There are a couple of optional steps you can take if you have the time and equipment. I embossed my black mat and the back flap of my envelope to dress up the card a bit and to tie the two together. I also used a stitched die on the entire mat composition before gluing it down. Little details can make a big difference. However, don't fret if you don't have the equipment. Your cards will still look beautiful, and the best part, they were made with love!

I hope you like this 5-minute design. My goal was to showcase how easy it is to pick up an inexpensive cardstack to make a simple Christmas card. Again, this is the perfect project for the whole family, so why not get the kids involved? They like to be crafty too!

Have a great weekend ahead.
